The Vandals lost a tough game to the Astros 11-5. Several lost opportunities and a lack of clutch hits were the downfall. They jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning as John Baldwin and Chad Ostahowski each had rbi singles. Unfortunately, they could muster only 2 more runs during the remainder of game. Next up the Diablos.

A tough day at the plate for the Vandals today, they left 8 men on base and had very little clutch hitting. If there was a highlight, Eddie Parsons came on in relief in the 6th inning and pitched 3 scoreless and struck out 7. The offense had rallys in the 8th and 9th but fell short. They look to get back to .500 against the Aguilas on Sunday.

This game was an absolute slugfest ! The game started off shaky for Right Hander Sam Guerrero as he gave up 3 straight walks, which led to a 5 run 1st inning for the Aguilas. The Vandals answered back immediately with 2 runs of their own, however after 3 innings found themselves trailing 10-2, as Guerrero struggled to find the strike zone and hit two batters. With the game on the line and the Vandals trailing 13-5, they exploded in the top of the 6th and 7th for a total of 8 runs to tie the game. According to Naba league rules, no new inning can be started after 2 hours and 45 minutes, as a result of the comeback, it was determined a new inning could be started with only a few minutes to spare. Its a good thing to, as Chad Ostahowski blasted a lead off home run to take the lead and the Vandals added 3 more runs to earn a much needed victory. Mike Fowler contributed with a home run 3 hits and 2 rbi. Even though it was ugly it was a team win as the everyone contributed, fought hard and pulled together to come up with the win!

The Vandals started out slow against the Mets today as they were held scoreless for the first three innings. However in the top of the 4th inning they loaded bases with 1 out as Todd Cassidy hit a bases clearing double then was knocked in by Victor Mercado to take a 4-3 lead. Their bats remainded quiet scoring only 1 more run until the top of the 8th inning when they added 4 more runs. Noe Mercado hit a 3 run bomb in the top of the 9th the put the Vandals up for good ! Eddie Parsons, pitched well in relief giving up no earned runs over 3 innings.
Once again the Vandals could not keep their miscues to a minimum and lost this game 11-7. The game was marred by a 9 run fourth inning by the Fury and Vandal bats could not muster enough offense to fight back on top. The Fury played solid defense committing only 1 error and tracked down several balls in the gap that saved a number of runs. Mike Fowler had a nice game contributing with a HR and two rbi's as he went 2 for 4 with a walk and scored twice. Dave Mercado, Apolonio Madueno and John Eschardies also contributed with two hits each.
This game was a solid victory for the Vandals returning them to .500 as they cruised to a 12-2 victory. It was dominated by an outstanding pitching performance by Nick Casanova. He struck out 14 batters, gave up 3 hits and only 1 earned run, in a time reduced 7 inning game. Mike Fowler hit a "no doubt" bomb to left center and also contributed with outstanding defense. Patrick Mostead gathered 2 hits and stole 2 bases, and Noe Mercado had two hits and threw out 2 runners trying to steal. It was a great overal game and hopefully the beginning of a nice winning streak.

The Vandals 5 game winning streak was stopped by the Dodgers as they lost 14-3. This was a poorly played game, as the Vandals usually solid defense made several errors and pitching was less than stellar. In addition, Vandal bats were very quiet with no clutch hitting to speak of. They look to bounce back into the win column against the So Cal Sox on Sunday.

It was a different Vandals team that showed up today. They scored 11 runs in 8 innings and held the Indians to 4 earned runs, as they won the game 11-5, improving their record to 10-6. The game was highlighted by a strong pitching performance from Chad Ostahowski, and a grand slam by Mike Fowler. Victor Mercado had his best game of the year with a home run, and two doubles, and Todd Cassidy contributed with an rbi single. One more game left in the season vs. the SJ Orioles. If they are victorious, they will go into the playoffs as the 3rd seed.
Murrieta dominated the game against the SJ Orioles by a score of 15-0. Sam Guerrero threw 5 strong innings striking out 4 and Ray Rios closed out the 6th striking out the side. The pitching tandem walked only two and gave up 1 hit. Patrick Mostead had a solid day at the plate going 3-4 with 4 rbi. Dave Mercado, Mike Fowler and Todd Cassidy all contributed with two hits each and produced 5 runs batted in collectively. The season ends on a high note with a 3rd place finish, and the Vandals look to next week as they face the Mo Val Fury in the first round of the playoffs. Hoping to avenge an earlier loss to the Fury the Vandals are ready to play!
PLAYOFFS 1ST ROUND
The Vandals avenged an early season loss to the Fury by soundly beating them in their first playoff game 15-6. A strong pitching performance through 5 innings by Sam Guerrero set the tone as he only gave up 4 earned runs. Chad Ostahowski came on in relief to shut down the Fury bats for 2 innings. Eddie Parsons set the table all day reaching base in all 5 at bats and Patrick Mostead had another great game at the plate with 3 hits and 3 rbi. John Eschardies had a base clearing double in the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. The Vandals move on to the semi-finals against the Riverside Astros, who beat the Vandals twice early in the season in two close games. There is no doubt Murrieta will be ready to play come Sunday !

What a game ! Chad Ostahowski started the game on the mound for the Vandals and dominated the entire 9 innings giving up only 2 earned runs. The Vandals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and added 5 more over the next 3 innings to take a 6-0 lead. It stayed that way until the 8th when the Astros scored two runs. The Astros made it close capitilizing on two errors in the ninth which pushed accross 2 more runs, but Ostahowski shut the door snagging a line drive and throwing to 2nd to complete the double play and end the game for a Vandals victory. Sunday August 24th @ Soboba is the Championship showdown vs. the So Cal Elite. The Vandals beat the Elite 8-4 on June 15th, however this is a much improved Elite team and it should make for a very exciting final game !
